Product Highlights:

  • IMPROVED GAIT PATTERN: The air bladder facilitates improved walking mechanics by encouraging natural knee flexion following full extension, reducing the jarring impact of hyperextension.
  • AIR BLADDER HYPEREXTENSION CONTROL: An adjustable pneumatic air bladder sits behind the knee to gently resist backward movement. The bladder creates a soft anterior rebound that encourages knee flexion after full extension, promoting a smoother and more natural walking pattern.
  • DUAL HINGED DESIGN FOR MIGRATION-FREE SUPPORT: Unlike single-frame Swedish knee cages, the dual hinge system locks the brace in position on the leg during movement. This eliminates the sliding and shifting that compromise hyperextension control in traditional designs.
  • HEAT-MOLDABLE 18 IN. FRAME: The full-length aluminum frame custom-shapes to your leg anatomy with gentle heat application. At 18 in., the HXR provides extended coverage from thigh to calf for secure, stable genu recurvatum management during standing and walking.
  • PERSONALIZED SUPPORT: Reach out to Brace Direct (an American Owned Company) to schedule a free video fitting and adjustment session for your perfect fit. For patients who need integrated lower limb gait support, the Guardian Elite Spiral AFO Rehabilitator (sold separately) attaches to the HXR to provide ankle and foot control alongside knee hyperextension management.

Dual Hinged Knee Brace for Hyperextension and Genu Recurvatum Control

The Guardian HXR Rehabilitator by Brace Direct provides targeted hyperextension control for patients managing genu recurvatum during walking and standing. Its pneumatic air bladder resists backward knee movement and encourages natural flexion, while the dual hinge system keeps the brace locked in position for dependable, all-day support.

Key Features

  • LIGHTWEIGHT LOW-PROFILE DESIGN: Comfortable enough for extended wear under clothing during work, errands, or physical therapy sessions without restricting daily activity

  • Check your measurement against the size options: XS (up to 9 in.), S (9-13 in.), M (13-19 in.), L (19-25 in.), XL (25-31 in.)

How to Wear / Fit

  1. Open all straps and position the brace so the dual hinges align with the center of your knee joint, then select the correct Left or Right orientation
  2. Slide the brace onto the leg with the air bladder centered behind the knee, the lower cuff on the calf, and the upper cuff on the thigh
  3. Fasten straps starting from the calf and alternating upward until snug but comfortable
  4. Inflate the pneumatic air bladder to your comfort level using the included pump - the bladder should gently resist backward knee movement without causing discomfort
  5. If the frame needs shaping, apply gentle heat to the aluminum frame and mold it to your leg contours
  6. Stand, walk a few steps, and readjust straps and air pressure as needed
  7. Check skin and circulation.Unfasten all straps and open the thigh and calf cuffs
  8. Sit with your knee bent about 90°
  9. Center the hinge over the middle of your kneecap so the uprights run along the sides of your thigh and calf
  10. Close the thigh cuff, then the calf cuff so they are snug and even
  11. Secure the straps in an alternating pattern (thigh then calf) and tighten until comfortably snug—do not overtighten
  12. Use the pneumatic bladder control to add or release air until the brace feels supported and comfortable
  13. If your model includes SWING ASSIST, set the assistance to the level recommended by your clinician, then walk a few steps and fine-tune for smooth, stable motion
  14. Recheck strap tension while standing
  15. ensure good circulation (no numbness, tingling, or excessive pressure).
